Closing the Gap: Moving From Rhetoric To Reality In Opening Doors To Higher Education for African-American Students

Presented at the CASBS Summer Workshop "Race and Inequality in Education: Reframing a Research and Policy Agenda for the 21st Century," this report by the Legal Defense Fund (LDF) focuses on higher education. They state that if the gap in college enrollment and graduation persists, we risk losing a generation of African-American youth--a loss that is simply unacceptable.

Beginning with the inspirational work of Charles Hamilton Houston and Thurgood Marshall, LDF has spent over six decades at the forefront of the struggle to address racial inequalities at all levels of our education system and in numerous other contexts, including employment, criminal justice, and voting rights.
