Contexts for Learning
Student outcomes are powerfully contingent on the ways in which school environments are designed and structured. From redesigning schools around small learning communities to identifying the ways in which significant social factors (e.g., social class, race, ethnicity, culture, gender) influence school communities, educational contexts can both afford and constrain student achievement and opportunity. This topic area presents work on school redesign programs and research that examines whether policies and practices in a variety of learning contexts promote student success.
