Reports & Report Series
December 2, 2015
Areas of Focus:
Developing schools, where learning genuinely occurs, can be difficult and uncertain work. This document offers a map to guide school teams in this challenging work as they forge, grow and sustain the conditions that can support continuous learning for instructional improvement.
The map depicts the features inherent in communities of practice in schools where practitioners continuously improve their teaching. Several features, essential to such communities of practice, are identified and discussed. These are: time for collaboration, purposeful collaboration and public practice.
These particular features are discussed and guidance about how to use the map is provided to interested users. SCOPE also provides a map handout for workgroups and discussion. Get the guide, map tool, and handout here >>
A new book, Global Education Reform: How Privatization and Public Investment Influence Education Outcomes, provides a powerful analysis of these different ends of an ideological spectrum – from market-based experiments to strong state investments in public education.
