Differentiating Professional Development for Male Teachers of Color

SCOPE researcher Travis Bristol will present an interactive lecture on how schools and districts can support and develop male teachers of color.

Practitioners, policymakers, and researchers continue to advocate for increasing the number of male teachers of color. However, little attention is given to how districts or schools might support and develop male teachers of color. Data from the Boston Teacher Residency Male Educators of Color Network may serve as a model for differentiating professional development for male teachers of color. This session will be an interactive lecture exploring this challenge facing our nation's schools.

Travis Bristol (Stanford Teacher Education Program, ’04) is a former high school English teacher in New York City public schools, teacher  educator with the Boston Teacher Residency program, and World Bank consultant.The National Academy of Education/Spencer Foundation and the Albert Shanker Institute funded Travis’s dissertation on Black male teachers’ pathways into the profession, experiences, and retention.
