Stanford researchers are developing a literature review and a policy brief that examine the role of digital learning and technology for supporting struggling students in disadvantaged communities, especially communities with concentrated poverty.

The literature review will summarize research on the effective uses of technology and digital learning for struggling secondary school students. The review will encompass successful uses of technology for strengthening achievement for both enrichment and remediation. Anticipated completion date: January 31, 2014.

The team will also put out a policy brief that (a) discusses the challenges, identifies promising models and practices, and outlines principles drawn from research and practice for providing struggling students with effective digital learning wherever it exists (e.g., schools, afterschool programs, libraries, home, etc.); and (b) provides policy recommendations for advancing these programs and practices.
